Welcome to our web site! As you saw on our home page, we meet just about every Friday Noon at The Club at Sonterra, 901 Sonterra Blvd (at Stone Oak Parkway) in San Antonio from Noon to 1:00pm. Please join us to discover our wonderful world of Rotary! Check our calendar for the latest events at http://www.stoneoaksarotary.org/Calendar.cfm
Our club (#59245) was chartered on June 28, 2002 and as we proceed into our ninth year, Stone Oak is one of the most active clubs in Rotary International's District 5840. We are proud of our legacy of fun, fellowship, service projects, and dedication to "Service Above Self".
See our Photo Album pages for historical pictures of the events below at http://www.stoneoaksarotary.org/PhotoAlbum.cfm
Stone Oak Rotarians continue our traditions of serving both the local and global communities. Some of our projects are:
Youth Exchange - Stone Oak Rotary has sponsored an exchange student from Belgium. He stayed with three different host families from Ronald Reagan High School while attending Reagan and developing a love for our culture.
Special Needs Children - Stone Oak Rotary Club (SORC) has donated $6,000 to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital for their excellent work in this area.
Christmas Elf Louise - We wrap & deliver gifts to San Antonio's needy in conjunction with the Elf Louise organization.
Dictionary Project - We have purchased almost 300 dictionaries for 3rd graders in alignment with District 5840's initiative.
College Scholarships - SORC cohas provided tens of thousands of dollars to deserving graduates in NEISD with a preference in past years for Academy for Creative Excellence high school grads. SORC is a Business Partner for NEISD.
Library Books - Each weekly speaker at SORC has a book donated in their name to Canyon Ridge Elementary School's new library collection. We will soon adopt the new Dan Parman Stone Oak Library to receive these donations in 2011.
We are also dedicated to international service projects. Our "Adopt a High School” initiative was for linking a Nigerian school with Ronald Reagan High School via teleconferencing technologies and exchanges. What a great way to learn cultural diversity and a deeper understanding of the world! Our commitment is strong in teaching our youth there are more similarities than differences in other cultures. The world has more to unite us than divide us.
Many of our members also serve on other boards of directors and/or lead service organizations. I am both honored and privileged by the association with such great and wonderful business & community leaders. We also had a member who was the first ever District 5840 level graduate of Rotary U with a Doctor's of Rotary Science.
