Lyle Larson, Republican Candidate for

Texas State Representative

Lyle Larson is a lifelong resident of the San Antonio area. Larson graduated from MacArthur High School and earned a BBA from Texas A&M. For the last 24 years, Larson has owned and operated a small business.

First elected in 1991, Larson served as San Antonio City Councilman, District 10 for 2 terms and as Bexar County Commissioner, Pct. 3 from 1997-2008.  Larson previously served as Chairman of the San Antonio Military Transformation Task Force, the San Antonio - Bexar County Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Alamo Area Council of Governments, and the Greater San Antonio Crime Commission.

House District 122

District 122 includes suburban Bexar County communities such as Castle Hills, Shavano Park and Hollywood Park. The district is 73 percent Anglo, with a per-capita income nearly double the state average. His position on key issues:

Fiscal Responsibility
Though Texas has enjoyed unprecedented growth over the course of the last few years, the effects of the national recession have led to predictions for a budget shortfall that range between $9 and $16 billion. To maintain a balanced budget, we must demonstrate fiscal restraint and prepare to make some tough decisions. Just as I lowered the tax rate seven times while serving on Bexar County Commissioners Court, I will work to protect taxpayers at the state level and ensure that the budget is balanced.

Transportation
Since 1986, the Texas Legislature has continuously cannibalized the state motor fuel tax fund, Fund 006, to balance the state budget. Diversions from Fund 006have created severe shortfalls in funding for state roadways. The Legislature must demonstrate discipline by utilizing Fund 006 exclusively for new highway construction and maintenance. If elected, I will work to end these diversions from Fund 006 and find ways to build the much needed additional capacity to our state roads.

Protecting San Antonio's Military Presence
As the former Chairman of the Military Transformation Task Force, I helped protect San Antonio's military facilities during the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) round. We were able to turn a projected loss of more than 1,000 jobs into a net gain of nearly 11,000 jobs, establishing south Texas as the home of all medical military medical training in the United States. I am committed to cultivating the military's presence in San Antonio and will work to develop solutions to protect the mission of Camp Bullis and Fort Sam Houston.

Education
The Texas Legislature has a responsibility to ensure Texas children receive the highest quality education so they are best equipped for their future after graduation. The Legislature also has a responsibility to you, the taxpayer, to ensure your investment in educating our children is used wisely. If elected, I will work to develop innovative strategies to reach the ultimate goal of increasing the quality of public education.

Kay Spears, Certified Clinical Nutritionist

 "TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH"

Kay Spears, CCN, is considered among America's top nutrition experts in understanding and treating both the physical and the emotional elements of total health. With two locations in San Antonio, Kay's clients come from a variety of sources, including doctor referrals and word-of-mouth.

Kay began her interest in nutrition by entering the dietetics program at Southwest Texas University.  After attending Southwest Texas University in San Marcos for two years, Kay moved to Costa Mesa, California to finish her  degree at Vanguard University. Upon graduation, Kay returned to Texas, enrolling in the Masters program for Science and Nutrition at University of the Incarnate Word.  She also worked with numerous doctors to obtain the practical as well as the educational knowledge to make an impact in the industry.

In 1998, Kay received her credentials as a Certified Clinical Nutritionist.  This certification is regulated with sufficiently high standards of academic eligibility, post-graduate studies in clinical nutrition courses, and continuing education and examinations. She also has her own nutrition practice  specializing  in weight loss, receiving countless referrals from medical doctors here in San Antonio..
